This application intriguingly fuses user interaction with an element of randomness, resulting in a unique and ever-evolving tapestry of sound and sight that promises to deliver something new with each engagement. It serves as a platform for users of all ages to delve into the realm of generative art.

Designed specifically for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, variant:cascade utilizes the 3D Touch sensor to enhance the artistic experience. By applying varying pressures on the touch screen, users can manipulate both the audio and visual aspects, making the interaction deeply personal. The tactile feedback allows users to draw lines that transform into visually responsive artworks; greater pressure adjusts the width and tempo of the visuals, alongside modifications to the accompanying music. Alternative devices without 3D Touch can still access similar functionalities by altering finger contact intensity on the screen.

The app encourages multi-finger interaction, with each touch affecting the audiovisual output independently, showcasing an intimate dance between user input and algorithmic creativity. Additional interactive features include an indeterminate audio engine display, accessible by tapping a dot in the lower right corner, illustrating how individual musical components are developed through chance and user engagement. In-app settings can be adjusted via a central menu button, while a screenshot feature captures moments of visual delight directly to the user's photo library.

Created by Interval Studios, variant:cascade is part of a distinctive series of generative artworks featuring visuals by Joshue Ott and compositions by Kenneth Kirschner. Each installment showcases Ott's signature visual performance through superDraw software complemented by Kirschner's original musical scores. The variety of interactive controls provided allows users to influence the piece subtly or maintain complete command over both visual and sound elements. All entries in this series are inherently generative; they evolve through a unique blend of randomness and user input, ensuring that every experience is consistently fresh and engaging.
